Proposals for the building above the Sainsburys at the eastern end of Queen Street (opposite the Capitol) to be turned into a hotel. Not a bad idea really, Cardiff is crying out for more hotel rooms

I rather like this. Design and materials look sympathetic to the original facade wile avoiding pastiche. The setbacks help with this and also provide outdoor space in the upper floors. Look forward to visiting the rooftop bar - I'm a sucker for a bar or restaurant with a view and Cardiff is crying out for decent one.

Agreed that it looks good with a bigger scale and great to have more hotel space, hopefully it'll be a nice quality brand. I'm not sure that Sainsbury's will be willing to get rid of their signage as in the CGI mind :D

It's going to be a Courtyard by Marriott.

Most if not all tower cranes are down in the city center. What of the proposed buildings is due to see vertical activity next?

I imagine it'll be the new tower on the site of Harlech Court, that's at demolition stage and has planning permission.

There's also the Friary House development on Greyfriars Rd, I think there are demolition contractors on site.

Future projects include the Howell's proposed 11 storey building, 50 storey tower at plots 4 & 5 Central Square (subject to planning) and the new apartments on Penarth Rd opposite Central Quay.

Work on Cardiff Central and the new tram line also start in the spring.

What's next for Central Quay, has work on The Moxy hotel started and what happened to The Ledger Building plans?

I have a feeling Langcross Cout is going to see the next crane, demolition happened very quickly there. It started quite a bit after Harlech Court but it looks like it's completely gone already. Hopefully they keep that pace up with foundation and a tower crane is up by the Spring.

There's a lot of developments waiting in the wings but we do see to be going into a bit of a lull of actual construction activity with work finishing off at a lot of sites either recently or very soon. Bottleworks, Anchorworks, Central Quay residential towers, Guildford Crescent, John Street Phase 1, Paddle steamer flats, Bute Street community living, Leckwith Road Community Living.
