This is an ineteresting one. After Bugess, Edwin Seward was probably Victorian Cardiff's most important architect. Among his buildings are the old library, CRI and the Coal Exchange. Below is his "bird's eye view of the future" from 1894.

It takes a few seconds to work it out. The tower of Saint John's is in the bottom right hand corner and the castle has been extended eastwards so that North Road runs through it. The large building at the northern end of Cathays Park is a 'people's palace of culture' - presumably something like Alexandra Palace in London.

We really dodged the bullet on this one! Another concept for Centreplan 70 - this one involving total demolition of the City Centre apart from St John's Church, the Castle and the central market. :o
