City Centre and Bay Model

PostTue Mar 01, 2016 1:58 pm

When will it be - or indeed is it on display anywhere. I'd love to see it, must be a fair old size and presumably cost a fortune, anyone in the know? I mean... if as has been suggested everything on it isn't 100% nailed on to happen then I'd just love to see our city as if it did - so's to speak! :)

Its home is at 3 Assembly Square in the Bay, in the Cardiff Business Council's offices, but they ferry it about to different conferences, advertising the city for potential investment.

It's an interesting one. You'd assume that since the Cardiff Business Council are advertising the city, there would have to be some solid evidence that each development on the model will most likely be approved. If it was merely a model of "what-if's" then surely the Rightacres tower at Central Square would be on here.

Also, has anyone else noticed how large and high-rise the Dumballs Road scheme is? It looks like it has actually expanded past Dumballs Road itself. I wonder what's going on with that scheme...

Good point, and I've changed the top photo showing this.

Its a shame the model isn't available for public viewing - you'd think they'd have "open days" a couple of times a year at least where it was available to interested citizens (i.e. geeks like us) to look at and discuss with Business Council reps.

I actually know a few people in the property industry - and I'm sure others here do as well. D'you think its worth trying to see if we can make use of those connections to organise a viewing of it?

And the Dumballs Road scheme does look very big, but I think it still is bounded by Dumballs Road: that road curves as it goes south from the city centre, in the same way the river curves. But it does seem to be more sizeable than I anticipated - every building seems to be mid-high rise, when I thought some of the internal streets were to be fronted by 3-4 storey houses and small apartment blocks.

I'm still convinced that the model is the one from the tube in the bay, it looks the same with lots of new developments added. Can't imagine that CBDC threw it in the bin.

I called Cardiff business Council and it is not available for public viewing and does indeed spend most of its time on tour.

It's not the one that used to be in the tube, who knows where that one went!

Come to that what's happened to the Tube - wasn't that meant to reappear at some point? Has it been scrapped along with that tethered balloon project that Jantra was such a fan of? ;)

So which model is this? Is it the business council one, the one from the Tube or another one entirely

That would appear to be the new model.

You know, a lot is said about Cardiff being small for a capital city. But this model shows just how big it could get if the developments come off and the appropriate connections between the districts are made (City Centre, ISV, Cardiff Bay, Cathays).

The future looks bright, in my opinion!
