I love that photo, you get a good idea of how much land there is still to build on with the snow dome, hotels and retail element of the scheme.

Great Photo - thanks for that! someone will have to get up pretty early to beat that one, any hot air balloonists out there!!
There's still a lot of steelwork to do so hopefully they'll be back soon, seems strange just to do the little rink and then pause? extended tea break?? :?

I saw a plan (i think with the planning permission) of the different positions a permanent crane would be installed during the construction of the rink. So i am guessing they need a permanent crane to do the main rink/stands, and that will be erected on a set date - hopefully not too long from now.

Never realised before that the current residential development was so small. Always looked bigger than that from previous pictures and you tube videos. I assumed it covered a larger area.

a bit of info here: http://www.cardiffpointe.co.uk/news_details.php?news_id=53

This meant that the 28 metre trusses could be erected and are now nearing completion. The next stage is the commencement of larger 50 metre trusses which are much more visible and which will give a true representation of the size and ambition of this project.

That reminds me, wasn't there a plan to have a tethered balloon just next door to the barrage???

Cheers for the comments, I was surprised by how much room was down there too. Would love there to be a Velodrome to be built on the land next to Toys R Us, so the ISV would have yet more punch to it's name along with an ice rink, swimming pool, white water rafting area and hopefully an indoor ski slope!

Here's hoping for Cardiff Commonwealth Games for 2026 or 2030 8-)

I doubt if we'll see a velodrome down there. If the Commonwealth Games did come to Wales they'd almost certainly adapt the Newport velodrome and unless cycling goes through the roof Maindy Stadium provides pretty much all that's needed for community use.

The cladding is going on...

I don't think that particular side of the building looks great, compared to the other angles. But looking at renders of the ice rink I think other buildings may be attached onto that back wall as part of phase 3 (the shopping area), so guess they had to make it quite boring and flat.

Hiya I believe the wall you are looking at is a temporary wall which will become an internal wall once finished
