What's Labour's share of the vote going to be? Above the 30% predicted. I'm rather alarmed by a voting system that gives a party a majority with that kind of vote share.

Labour got 35% of the vote in the constituencies and 29% of the vote on the regional list, yet they still ended up just 1 short of half the seats.

There are third world, tyrannical despots who can only look on in envy at such a shining example of 'democracy' in practice.

The electoral system produced exactly the result it was designed to, a big Labour win when they get anything over about 30% There are 60 AMs because that is the optimum number to maximise the Labour majority.

Clown or not - an elected politician derives his mandate from the voters not from a slightly dull ninety year old woman. Making him swear an oath to a hereditary monarch just in order to do his job is outrageous. Why the hell should he?

I'm guessing here but I suspect the bulk of Labour and Plaid AMs are republicans at heart. Why put them through this outdated nonsense?

I'm something of a Republican at heart but I think this is just childish nonsense. We are a constitutional monarchy and the Queen is sovereign. If you can't accept that and be prepared to change the system from within then your only option is to be a revolutionary.

Never heard such a pile of nonsense! How can you "change the system from within" if you're doomed to remain on the otutside and not allowed to take office without swearing allegiance to the monarch? The only way is to not take up office, as per Sin Fein, which is self-defeatist, or lie in your allegiance proclamation - and do it as honourably as possible, by crossing your fingers to let everyone know you're being insincere. More power to this attitude, thanks.

You can change the system from the outside by being a revolutionary. If you refuse to do that then you are conforming to the system and you have to accept everything that goes with it. If you can't swear allegiance to the Queen don't be an AM. You might as well say you should only obey the laws you personally believe in.
