Why focus on the language Zach, what the hell has it got to do with a telephone number cock up? They are two very different things.

No they are not!!, they spend so much time and effort trying to get the Welsh version correct, sometimes they get the basic meaning wrong, or don't notice basic typos, as in this case.

(another example below!!)

If you go on the trawscymru web site, the timetables are bilingual and look a complete and utter hotchpotch. A four year old would not have formatted a web page like it. But because it WAG funded they have to be seen to be doing the right thing.
Other typos are "occure" twice, "permited" and also the "ervice" will depart...
Never mind lots of nice fonts and pretty colours.

Come to think of it why could someone not have at least stuck this on the bus stops?

@Ash

What I said was nothing on the right has ever come close (to the likes of the SED or CPSU) and I stand by that. That doesn't mean we haven't seen totalitarian or authoritarian right wing governments because we have, they just aren't as all encompassing as the communists or socialists.

Back to the metro..

Well, I think I'll answer that... if only to divert us from an emerging language row! :)

I think you do have a point that Communist parties and Facist parties share an ideological belief in the role of the party within the state while the right-wing governments I cited were more pragmatic/cynical. For them, it was a means to an end, rather than an end in itself.

It's a heck of a stretch though to compare the flabby, lazy managerialism of Welsh Labour to the SED or CPSU. At least they believed in something!

Are they so tired after translating that they don't check their work before signing it off?

They are just basic mistakes made because of a lack of effort, and in some of your examples above they haven't paid enough attention to the Welsh as much as the English. It's just shoddy work and it isn't acceptable.

I seem to recall there was an article in the Western Mail a few years ago regarding this issue. At the time the contract for designing these signs was given to a company in Yorkshire. No wonder there are errors!

Why doesn't this surprise me. The welsh civil service award a contract to a company who are from a country whose first language is neither welsh or English.

That's a great little video. It's certainly full steam ahead on the PR side of things, but I wonder how much is actually getting done.

Yeah except there is no update, just some soundbites about a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes! I'm not sure what the purpose of these public displays is either, maybe it's some time wasting. How about some actual progress? This is becoming procrastination in the extreme :x
