St Mary St is having a bit of a rennaisance. Be at One (fancy schmancy cocktail place) is opening up next to Le Monde, the Cambrian is turning into a craft beer/hipster joint and now the conversion of an empty office building into a backpackers hostel.

Not only that but a number of long empty unit's appear to be filling up - Wok to Go near the Royal Hotel, Kaspers next to the Sandringham, the tattoo place that has moved from Floyds to a former opticians next to Greggs, the second hand record store in High Street, Turtle Bay are opening a restaurant in Hodge House and Morrisons are going ahead with their local brand in the unit on the corner of St Mary St/Caroline St.

Usually when one street in the city centre rises another one falls but that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment.

Karl - is the Morrisons local back on again at the bottom of Wyndham Arcade? I thought it had been put on hold/abandoned about a year ago.

There were indeed people inside looking as if they were doing measurements etc a couple of weeks back so something is evidently afoot ....

There was a recent planning app (about two weeks ago) for signage, so think it's back on.

An application has gone in for 108 houses/apartments in the Porth Teigr scheme. It's located in the far north east corner - basically across the water from Adventurers Quay. The planning app is on the CCC website and looks quite good. It's a red brick modern design and between 5 and 2 storeys tall. It adopts the existing Porth Teigr public realm and most of the townhouses have roof gardens. There is a small open space and a public walkway along the dockside.

That's brilliant news as far as I'm concerned. It seems to be the right time to build homes in the city and I was getting concerned that they weren't doing anything any time soon when they've had homes planned in the scheme all along, potentially when there's a chance of something of a slightly higher quality from them as well.
