I'll let you all know when the inevitable old age petitioner comes knocking on my door to object to this outrageously overdeveloped traffic choking scheme. Give it a fortnight.

Campaigners are hoping to get a new footbridge over the river at Llandaff, paid for by the housing development at the BBC studios:

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/campaigners-call-new-footbridge-over-9197115

Campaigners hope they can persuade Cardiff council to force housing developers to fund the bridge via a section 106 agreement which puts in place certain conditions before planning permission for such developments is granted.

Dan Reed, one of those who has signed the petition, said: “A new footbridge would alleviate some of the congestion and traffic, and promote an alternative means of getting my children to school.”

Ruth Smith, who has also signed the petition, added: “It will take a lot of pressure off Bridge Road across the Taff and provide a safe and viable walking or cycling route to Llandaff and onwards.”

A Cardiff council spokesman said: “There have been discussions with both the developer and the resident proposing the footbridge over the River Taff.

“The council can confirm that if planning permission is given for this development, full consideration will be given on how the community infrastructure levy and income generated from the section 106 agreement is spent.

Must say doesn't seem like a priority from an S106 as it could be quite expensive to deliver once one also factors in access to/from the bridge (esp difficult given the playing fields of Glantaf).. and the fact there is already another bridge right there. The existing bridge certainly gets a fair bit of road traffic, but I don't think there is congestion in terms of pedestrian footfall! The only real benefit would be bikes, but it seems like a hefty price for a bike bridge, especially given the somewhat hilly Llandaf topography probably limits bike use quite significantly.

I'd favour improvements in bus services, or on-road cycle routes, or something with broader impact on the area. The S106 monies available might not be quite as high as usual for a site of the scale and value as this given the likely demolition costs, and costs associated with the "protected trees".

There an application in for the site of the discount beds warehouse in Ferry Rd. Grangetown. Not surprisingly it's for apartments but they're at the better looking end of the spectrum. They're described as affordable but its not clear whether they're a Housing Association development or an offset for a commercial development elsewhere.

Cardiff Royal Infirmary west wing is up for sale -

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/b ... al-9288552

It's already being marketed for student accommodation. I hope that it isn't demolished. I quite like the building and it has some nice art deco-ish touches. Plus I was born there. Where will they put the blue plaque if it's student resi???

The original bit is ok but the more modern extension is pretty bad. I imagine it'll all be demolished though. I was born there too, maybe we could arrange a big communal blue plaque?
