La Tasca closed their restaurant in the Brewery Quarter on March 26th and Bella Italia are taking over this unit! Bella Italia shop-fitters are currently stripping the unit. Unsure if Bella Italia will be closing their Mary Street branch...

I think it's a shame to lose La Tasca, especially as they just refurbished their Cardiff restaurant late last year - The closure doesn't make a lot of sense!

Additionally, the office space above Five Guys has been granted planning permission for an escape games operator known as Breakout. The entrance is the doorway built into Five Guys opposite Pierre.

La Tasca and Bella Italia are both owned by Casual Dining Group so they're just switching fascias. They've been closing or converting a number of La Tasca sites, I guess they have more suitable brands in some cases. They also own Las Iguanas and Cafe Rouge.

Burger and Lobster has put its lease up for sale, but say they wish to remain in Cardiff and relocate to a smaller premises that is closer to the size of their more intimate Mayfair restaurant.

Not surprised really, the unit is huge and the main problem being you can't see into it which people like to do before deciding to go into a restaurant.

Plus unless you live in Mayfair, who wants to pay £60 for 4 burgers and chips.

I nominate Bosphorous down the bay for the new Burger & Lobster location.

That would be good. Is that place still going?

The former Top Gun fish and chip shop down the bay is still vacant as well.

Really? You want to get rid of one of the few independents in the bay for another chain?

The Bosphorus is descent enough and has been there since Mermaid Quay was developed I believe.

Although I can see Burger and Lobster fitting in down the bay more than the city, perhaps Pizza Express' unit, that place always seems quiet nowadays.

I have to say I've not had the best experience at Bosphorus - it always seems quiet when I've been there and not very welcoming - I don't think it's adding much to the area.

Also I wouldn't say Mermaid Quay is short on independents, when you consider Signor Valentino, Bayside Brasserie, Eddie's Diner, Demiros, San Martino, Ba Orient - that's all off the top of my head.

Anyway, in terms of Burger & Lobster we're hardly talking McDonalds! 8 locations around the world! I think a pier is an perfect location for a lobster restaurant.
