Glad this finally got over the line. I reckon this'll still open ahead of Bristol's new arena.

Great news.

It would be great to start to see some proposals for the CIA site, plus the whole area surrounding it (eg Rapport building, Jury's hotel etc.) while the new arena is being constructed. That whole area looks really tired so fingers crossed this is a catalyst for a major project.

The arena financing is now locked in and construction can start, apparently still on track for a 2028 opening.

Great news. Would be good to see the replacement Red Dragon Centre going up sooner rather than later. Anyone know when the current one is planned to be demolished?

No idea, but it was always horrible, its face (such as it is) looking into the car park and its arse turned to LG avenue. The sooner it goes, the better!

Agreed, was a bad planning decision to allow an out of town leisure complex to be built in the middle of the Bay. The surface car park takes up a tonne of space alone.

It's easy to knock the Red Dragon centre now, but 30 years ago the landscape was very different.
The maritime museum had closed, there was no Senedd, no Millennium centre, and no Dr Who exhibition.
The Red Dragon centre was much needed, and very popular when it opened.
The space it took up wasn't a concern, as there was nothing else there.
The cinema was the only one in town, for a while, after the closure of the 2 city centre Odeons, and ABC cinema.
The bowling offering was also unique at the time.
As I've said before I hope the replacement centre will feature an IMAX, as I think it's the only one in Wales right now.
Even better if they offer a "full" IMAX.
Personally I'll be sad to see it go.

Back in July it was stated there's no firm decision yet on the Red Dragon Centre.
A week ago the council told local residents that they don't have any firm plans for anything beyond the arena and hotel, at that point a developer for the arena hadn't been named and it was confirmed if the arena didn't go ahead then something else would be built.
Personally I really want the bridge to be built, but that's part of the red dragon redevelopment as well.
