Which is another reason never to read the comments sections on newspaper websites. They're always swarming with bitter kippers, resentful old men and the frankly bonkers. Here it's only Jantra who's like that! (That is a joke, Jantra - don't take it the wrong way!)

Piling has started on the new BBC HQ according to lastest reports. Good to see they're getting stuck in and not wasting time.

Central Square has been the fastest developing scheme I can ever recall in Cardiff. As we all know on CWM, most things take forever or don't get off the drawing board or are rather piecemeal when they do. This has taken off in a big way and very quickly. There are are tenants lined up for practically all of No1, 60% of No 2, the BBC signed up and plans going in soon for the interchange building. Amazing all in all, hats off to Rightacres.

It is encouraging that so many current developments are being driven by Welsh based companies like Rightacres, J.R Smart and Watkin Jones. I wouldn't want to overstate it but they're probably a bit more conscious of the public good and the needs of the city than outside companies would be.

Have you seen what Rightacres have built before ash?

Having said that the central square development is many leagues distant from their previous efforts and they have got a fairly decent architect practice on board.

As for Watkin Jones I've seen what they have built elsewhere and I'm really not sure. The tower they are proposing for Cardiff is tall and slim which is good, but the colour scheme and the really blocky elevation could be oppressive.

you're correct, what we need are more of the light/white colours and rendering as found on altolusso and ty pont haearn. they set off the city in all its splendour

The tower was going to look a lot better in my opinion, that was until the Cardiff Council planners had their input. The design stages and the reasons behind each change and modification are within the planning app.

I didn't say that. The last thing we need is more render. The proposed tower will have black cladding and from certain angles looks monolithic. It may work really well and set off the lighter coloured buildings around it - but as I said before it could look oppressive.

It's mixed, addmitedly. The conversion of the Hodge Building into the Holland House was excellent. Some the Callaghan Square buildings are a bit "office park" but that part of the city was virtually derelict when they were built.
