Is this the same development that the Atlantic Wharf locals objected to because it was for common(er) people? Looks rather unimaginative but I can't imagine who'd prefer a big pile of soil to this. Has it got any amenities?

It is indeed the same site. It's a fairly unimaginative piece of infill although it is nice to see some houses being built in the bay rather than just appartments. There are no ammenities although there is a £326,040 Section 106 payment. There's no word on how that will be spent although it could well be swallowed up in the plans to revamp Butetown & Grangetown's primary schools

it doesn't look three bad. it will all depend on how good a quality material they use.

Video showing the construction of the Radyr weir hydroelectric scheme, which I'd completely forgotten about:

Looks like this might now go ahead, although if they take as long as the developer of St.Edeyrn it might be ten years before we see a house there!

There's a fair amount happening on City Road isn't there ? It's nice to see a gradual increase in height there, it makes sense with it being so close to the city centre.

All the height is at the Newport Road end which makes sense I suppose. If all of the planned schemes come to fruition the City Rd area will be very dense. Its got a really good vibe at the moment - you don't want it to become too gentrified as all that will mean in Cardiff terms is a Starbucks and a Zizzi opening up - but it could do with a bit of attention. A grant scheme to improve the appearance of some of the buildings and bring into use upper floors would be good and perhaps work to improve the public realm and a bit of planting.

In the same area there is also an app in for 46 flats on the corner of Newport Road/Wordsworth Avenue. It's currently a vacant site and the proposal looks half decent.

City road is my favourite street in the city, so much going on, numerous cultures all mixed together. If they can fill in the empty plots and buildings it will be a great destination

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/disappointing-inevitable-residents-say-after-10743565

“We’ve spent thousands of millions in the valleys and all we’re doing is destroying those communities which is sad."

“It’s fine for the planning inspector to say ‘Let’s build houses’ and we’re going to have another 40,000 people in Cardiff but we don’t need another 40,000 people here."

"Lisvane Panthers is Wales’ biggest junior football club, with 43 teams, but has no home base"

"This development is going to be massive. There will be nearly 3,000 residents in 1,200 homes and the roads just won’t take it".

"People won’t want to come and live here and they won’t be able to get through on the roads."

And I'd want to leave my 'Valleys' town why? I'm just one station and a few minutes north of this place, have better park-and-ride options for the train, have a cheaper mortgage, better views, more local shops and our kids quite clearly have better sports facilities than poor old Lisvane Panthers.

Trust me, it isn't us valleys oiks you'll have moving in!

Edit : Apologies for the rant, just sick and tired of the NIMBYs in these places constantly using 'the Valleys' as an excuse for why they don't want homes built. We have new housing developments north of the M4, we even have trains in some places.
