I saw some images of the inside partly converted, so i think they were quite far into it when they stopped. Cant say the interior conversion looked that great in terms of the layout.

Yeah from the photos they posted it seemed like things were moving pretty rapidly. Shame really. Wonder what will happen now. I honestly couldn't see it working as apartments, they built a show apartment and it looked like it was getting barely any daylight at all. Obviously can't knock through some new windows so the living space was just relying on a old church window, next door you have Admiral House with floor to ceiling glass windows. Believe I read the spire was going to be one multistorey house as it has it's own entrance, becoming the tallest house in Wales? Would have been interesting to see. Just hoping it doesn't lay empty for years again, but what can they really do with it?

A longshot, but my vote would be for something like the Selexyz Dominicanen bookstore in Maastricht.

Well isnt the university Library in a dire 60's building? Move it here and incorporate the site next door as well. i dont think the interior is as impressive as the above though!

I don't know I'd say it was pretty impressive. roath_park_mark on Flickr posted a great album of interior shots before the church closed back in 2006. Lots of wonderful carvings and stained glass which I hope has been preserved.(https://www.flickr.com/photos/roath_park_mark/253621340/in/photostream/lightbox/)

From my flat in Atlantic Wharf I can now see 7 tower cranes. The latest of which just went up today seemingly opposite the Queens buildings of Cardiff university on Newport road. This is more student flats yes?

Yes that's a nice yellow tower crane to assist in the transformation of fitzalan court - which is such an 'interesting' development that it now has its own thread!

Anyway Elgdav... Back to the view from your flat, and a prediction - perhaps very optimistic! but I'm predicting that the view from elgdav flat in Atlantic Wharf tower crane count in mid december later this year will be at least 13. Please keep us posted! :)

Not Cardiff, but closest neighbour Newport. Despite student towers continuing apace here, it's not the same story a few miles eastwards.

Can't really see why a fire in a building that was being demolished anyway, should cause developers to pull out. There's surely somthing else at play here.

If the buidling had lots of pre-fabricated material, could some of it have been salvaged and sold (rather than just demolished to rubble)? But its a little odd, I must say. Maybe there are concerns more generally with the viability of the development post-Brexit (are there many EU students in Newport?).

From what I understand, this is something of an excuse. I don't think the criticism the development recieved from the local MP gave much encouragement for this scheme to go ahead, despite recieving planning permission:

Before or after the whole of Cardiff becomes student accommodation? ;)
