Monmouthshire BS are expanding their branch network prior to the launch of Banc Cambria which they're a part of.

The current store is on Churchill Way, where's the new one going? Debenhams maybe although Frasers Group did buy the Next building but think that's got a few years left on the lease. Assume House of Fraser will go as part of the building redevelopment.

Will fill a decent sized void wherever it goes which is good news.

Always thought Flannels was in a very odd location.

Apparently they're knocking through the old Topshop, Zara and taking over River Island on Queen Street for the new Flannels which will give that part of town a much needed boost.

If the Howells building redevelopment takes place hopefully House of Fraser could find a new home in the old Debenhams..... But House of Fraser's lease runs until 2027.

Mike Ashley (who owns Sports Direct, House of Fraser and Flannels) now owns the building occupied by Next.... who's lease also runs until 2027. Maybe he'll kick Next out and move House of Fraser there in 2027...... Don't know where Next would go, the Debenham unit might be too big for their needs.

This is all assuming House of Fraser and Next still exist on the high street in 2027! And I hope Debenhams won't be empty for 5 years!

A rather baggy and bloated article, but raises some interesting points about the past, present and future of Queen St.

Thoughts?

With the cinema closed, The Capitol needs a radical rethink. Walked through when I was home and it's 90% empty. It's always needed an entrance opposite the station to drive footfall. Best thing would be to knock it down and start again I reckon.

"Adam, from Curios, explained: "The worst thing Cardiff ever did was bring in John Lewis. They should’ve done it on the outskirts of the city because people will travel for something like that."

With insight like that, I think we can ignore his recommendations about keeping the city centre vibrant(!)

Agree with having an entrance opposite Queen St Station. I thought I was the only one. I remember when H&M used to be there and you could cut through from the station to get to Queen Street. An entrance there seems so obvious I've just assumed there are good reasons that I've simply overlooked as to why it hasn't been done.

House of Fraser closing. Probably next month. Not much of a surprise.

David Morgan, Debenhams and Howell's all gone, John Lewis is the last store standing. The new Flannels will be an addition later in the year though.

The redevelopment of Howell's can start now though and it looks good.
