Thought that this may warrant its own thread given the current situation with the Blues. It's also a potentially huge development.
Cardiff Arms Park may be getting a huge regeneration, including a 15,000 seater stadium, a hotel, offices, and maybe even a convention centre.
I didn't think there was enough space there for all that, but I'm probably wrong.
I'm not too knowledgable with Cardiff Blues' financial situation but this looks like a pretty expensive project.

I'm not 100% sure but believe that the Millennium stadiums north stand will need attention within 5years or so. Therefore it would be handy if the existing Arms Park wasn't where it is now! I'm wondering if this could assist the progression of a possible new ground and those other developments being considered? Get it all done at the same time so's to speak? I wonder where the Blues play if a new stadium is to be constructed - back to the Cardiff City Stadium I guess.

The Concrete Cancer thing is not true, years left in the MS Nth & CAP Sth though that said any development of CAP shd see a new Sth Stand. As the article suggests the idea is for CAP to be turned 90degrees with the option to open up the Riverside walk for retail and new stand etc.

One idea mooted a few years back wld be for a low-ish terrace running alongside Westgate Street apartments and the new ground taking up the Bowling Green - though not infringing on the Holiday Inn land. There would be new Nth, East & Sth Stands in a quasi bowl shape. Another idea was that pitch be raised so as to facilitate car parking underneath (a tidy income for the club presently).

As ever its for the Athletic Club to agree, respond to ensure this gets off the ground. As for where else, the Canton RFC site is always mentioned but one whisper is some of the undeveloped land at the Sports Village behind Toys R US, I believe) Either option is obviously nowhere near as ideal as CAP.

For the sort of crowd the Blues attract Sardis Road would be ideal - and it's within the Blues' region. Rugby politics being what they are though, hell will freeze over before that happens!

And quite right too. No such thing as a Region, 4 pro teams with regional responsibilities is a better way of looking at it!!

I think you're being a bit harsh! It's got quite elegant lines and is about the right bulk for the streetscape. If (a big if admittedly) they used high quality materials and finishes it could look very good.

The plans do seem to suggest that Westgate Street would be pedestranised. What on earth would that mean for the new bus station?

Some of the images also show buses on Westgate Street. I think that part of the road will be changed so it looks like a walkway on match days but will also allow traffic through on non match days.

A bit like the crossing on Castle Street I guess ?

It looks alright, could be a little bit taller, but then it's just an outlne plan isn't it, and there's all the older buildings around it to consider.

I do wonder about the viability of the offices, it's another one to add to the long list of proposed offices, likewise the hotel to a certain extent...especially when you consider the other schemes on the go that also have a proposed hotel element in them.

We'll see, this isn't down as starting until 2017 and by then we'll know where the rest of the city has gone in as far as finding occupiers has gone.

I quite like it and along with other other developments around it should obscure the stadium from view when in the city centre. I don't say this as a bad thing, I'm talking about wow factor when you turn that corner and see a huge stadium hidden amongst your usual city scape

Not much more on the proposed development, but news that something is closer to happening: CAC and Blues are close to agreement on a new deal. Talk is of a new stadium at 90 degrees to the current one, opening up development land. The stadium would cost £20-30 million they suggest. Thats a lot of money for the Blues. Where will it come from? I can't imagine the development land yielding much more than the cost of demolition and site clearance.
