Do you know how some of the apparent previous obstacles have been overcome? Have FIFA given up on them or have the FAW, WRU, Assembly and Council promised to put something in place?

I think the biggest issue was hotel rooms but Uefa have been won round there. In Berlin Uefa partners booked out a few hotels each. I can imagine it will be very difficult for travelling fans to find a room in Cardiff. Every 4 or 5 star hotel in Cardiff plus Celtic Manor is going to be full pretty much already. It took over an hour to get from hotel to the Olympiastadion on matchday despite it being reasonably close by. Any poor souls who resort to Bristol or Swansea are going to have a long old drive to the stadium before kick off. But those corporate partners in say the Hilton or Park Plaza will be escorted on fooy by the 'lollipop ladies' Uefa is so fond of.
Champions League weekend is an absolute circus. It will make Cardiff's experience of the FA Cup final look like a school fete.

I wonder if the proposed developments in front of the Westgate St entrance to the Milstad will be completed by then? I can't imagine UEFA wanting a full on building site in front of the stadium when the game is on. Michel Platini with a hard hat and a high vis vest will not look good.

There isn't any reason why not - there are 2 years to build it after all - but I read that the planning app won't be ready until October and then by the time CCC, WRU, the DCfW and Uncle Tom Cobley have their say you know that planning consent won't be granted until spring 2016 by which time we are really on the minutes.

I read that Gaunt Francis - the architects behind the scheme - recently took on 9 new staff which may or may not be an indication that things are moving fast. Probably not.

In terms of the scheme I don'y think the WRU would have much difficulty in finding a hotel operator and any A3 commercial units are also likley to be popular given the proximity to the stadium and Westgate Streets revival as an eating and drinking destination. Office and residential may be more problematic though.

Is there a chance that part of the deal in winning it was that the WRU get the hotel and conference facilities done in time for it ? There's been nothing in the press (or nothing in Ben's reply) to indicate that, it's just one hell of a coincidence that the WRU announce that scheme in one month and then here we are a few weeks later and we are hosting the match. It would have pacified UEFA to a point in that it's a facility right next to the stadium to host the most important delegates.

If there is a shortage of hotel rooms cruise ships have provided the solution elsewhere. They could probably squeeze a small ex rubbish barge up the Taff and moor it up by the stadium for any FIFA execs who survive the attentions of the fraud squad and are free to attend, if of course they are invited.

The proximity of the stadium is all well and good on match days etc but that only accounts for a small percentage of the year. St Mary St is a testament to the fact that a food/drink district can not surivive on that alone.

That's true but hopefuly the CL final and other events will contribute to the city's overseas visitor numbers year round. Cardiff has been dropping down the league table over the last couple of years and the CL exposure should reverse the trend.

As can be seen here http://www.visitbritain.org/town-data Cardiff's vistor numbers have been flat since 2012 while competitor cities like Liverpool and Bristol have seen healthy increases.

If they are going to start work on the proposed new build at the Millennium Stadium entrance area off Westgate Street one wonders why they've spent the last two weeks resurfacing all the walkways?

The new proposed builds are nothing new. They were on the original plans for the Millennium Stadium submitted back in the mid-90's but then the money ran out......

I've got the original plans somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them out.

That doesn't sound very promising regarding the resurfacing. It's a shame if this development isn't earmarked to be completed in time for this big game, surely it is the biggest game the millennium stadium will ever stage? Presently the entrances on this side which should be the 'flagship' entrance to the stadium, are pretty uninspiring. Still over the moon that we've landed this gig - but wonder whether the fantastic venue that is the millennium stadium needs a 'bit of icing' on it!
