Looking at that overhead photo shows what prime real estate the marriot block is.

That's one tiny piece of land for 35 storeys! surely a model or something will be on display next wednesday at the radisson - looking forward to popping in to see that. I only mentioned a 'super skinny' (ok in Cardiff terms  ) on this plot ages ago as a bit of fun :o I thought a sleeperz type development at about 8 storeys was about the size possible!!
It certainly looks like this area is going to become pretty highrise within the next 5yrs, some of the proposed developments will come off - won't they?

They'd better! We have this, at least one but probably two mid twenty floor buildings at Capital Quarter and at Central Square another highrise and one or two mid-rise buildings. You'd like to think that at least some of them would happen.

Good lord.

An anorexic 100m+ tower in a city as prone to Atlantic storms as Cardiff? It would be pretty scary on the upper floors in any winter hurricane!

maybe they could increase their footprint, as there does seem to be a large pedestrian area in front of the hoardings.

Yes there's a little more room in front and perhaps to the hope street side, but nevertheless it's a pretty small area for that many storeys, definitely gonna pop along and find out more next weds at the Radisson.

Looks like this is getting serious now. I've been past the plot a few times and although it's small, it's not unheard of, as the post above suggests, and 35 storeys is nowhere near what has been achieved in other countries before. There's also a possibility of a widening from the bottom, like the Big Sleep just down the road.

Can't wait to see some designs!

For anyone that's mildly interested, the planning documents have been updated.
The council has responded and granted that no environmental assessment is required, which will speed things up and is probably why there was some activity at the site recently.
