I got the impression that this 107metre (ish) tower could happen!! Had a nice chat with the architect from RIO who was explaining about the quality of the finish this building would have, also whilst pretty basic in shape - think thin rectangle! the windows were to be kind've 'staggered' to add a visual interest to the building. I would say this but :geek: I really hope this comes off as it would be worthy of it's place as the most prominent building on the skyline (in my view) it aint no shard! but certainly no Ty pont haearn either!! and for Cardiff, pretty slick! The timelines loosely speaking could be... planning app in september commencement in spring 2016 and I think it was about 18months for completion. Still hopefully more info when I get that pdf.

I'm not going to wish too much this happens, I tried that once with a certain needle and bayside tower!! surely the kiss of death! :)

Paul, I think I arrived as you were leaving. Around 5.45?

Hi Nick... hmmm 5:45? Tall dark, handsome, suave, debonair, Nope that wasn't me, I was the scruffy git that left at about 4pm!! :)
What was your opinion Nick? It's pretty obvious that I'm somewhat blinkered by this buildings height, and really intrigued by its miniscule 'footprint' (if that's the right term?). But nevertheless I got the impression from the Architect that this was to be a quality structure that RIO are going to be proud of - and if 1 central square is anything to go by, which is also a RIO development, then they would appear to produce top class buildings.
Also this new towers addition at that location I love - just across the road from the Radisson Blu and perhaps just the other side of the track to maybe 3 or 4 tall structures.

Now the question is.. did they see my posting on here back in January identifying the potential of this plot of land or perhaps it was your 'fantasy' render - that inspired this building?

I actually think that some of those renders are a little inaccurate? - the plot of land involved and the fact that no more area will be involved, means that it will surely be 'skinnier' than some of the visuals imply. I think the first image illustrates the tower best and I would imagine this shows the widest part of the building.

I like it from the first couple of images, not as keen on the final two, but the colours certainly fit in with the developments nearby. I like the dark colours in the first two pictures.

Looking at the developer's website it was always going to be a bit like that, none of their developments are without a bit of colour so I wasn't expecting a shinny glass tower.

EDIT : I'd be happy enough if this goes ahead though

Actually, the colours remind me of the second smaller tower that was a part of the Seren development.

I like it. Shame they can't use the curviture of the plot, would make it interesting but overall I think it's tidy - certainly marks a step change in the (possible) height of the city. Let's hope it comes off.

The height is amazing, I really hope this gets the go ahead with not reductions in the height, I think this will help push new towers upwards.
We will see how this goes, don't want to get my hopes up like with the needle and the bay pointe!!

Not sure what to think about this one. The height is fantastic, but the design is risky and may not age well. If it's made of quality materials I'm sure it will look fantastic. Especially if the brown-ish cladding has a gold/copper finish (as implied in the first two images). However, when it comes to something that will be so impressive on the landscape, I would have preferred something a little more conservative and less "arty". But that's just my opinion.
Nonetheless, it's great that a tower of this height is finally becoming a reality.
