The tower only has outlining planning consent, so not for a while. Although you'd like to think that there's some sort of interest if they are changing the height for the second time since the original tower plans.

Walesonline article suggests a 100,000 square feet scheme at John St will start later this year:

Phase 1 then, it'll be good to see it start. That site has been an eyesore for so long.

Not sure how accurate the article is compared to what's actually going to happen, but what's also interesting to read from other schemes is the followng:

- Ledger building at Central Quay to start later this year
- Rightacres to start 'shortly' on the Interchange (we live in hope!)
- Some refurbishments at Hodge House, Caspian Point and Fusion Point 1

They started removing the siloes from Brains yesterday. It's quite possible the site will be cleared by August ish.

John Street is definitely starting this summer, says so on the JR Smart website.

Not counting on the interchange!

Now that we can see it properly, the new HMRC building is looking good - it is well proportioned and carefully detailed.

But by heck, Southgate House needs a good scrub!

Re the bus station, is it intended for Cardiff Bus services or those heading beyond the city?
(And is Cardiff the largest UK city to have no bus station?)

Given the size of the office in Ty Glas plus four floors in Brunel House the new build doesn't look that large.

I don't think HMRC use all the space at Ty Glas - I think a bunch is empty (basically derelict), and other is rented out to various low-cost occupiers like charities.

When they move to the new building they'll also probably cram people in more tightly. Many government departments have moved to hot-desking on the basis that at any one time a bunch of people are in meetings, on leave, etc. People can't leave things on 'their desk' (they don't have one) - they use lockers instead. It can be quite stressful apparently, as there are times when there aren't enough desks for everyone.
