Worth asking Paul! It was cleared in a hurry, so it makes you wonder if they are close to announcing something, but then that could have been they can just clear empty buildings so they have less to look after.

All I hope is there's enough demand that something sizeable can still happen here and at Central Square's Interchange building and not one happening at the expense of the other and the loser resulting in a smaller project happening, or in typical JR Smart style the John Street site just sitting there empty for ages!

Looks like there might be life in this development after all, a section 106 agreement has been signed dated 22nd of February 2017

They must want to get started soon. Can't think of a reason why a developer would start spending money otherwise. Especially when they have 5 years to sit on their hands before planning lapses.

I'm really excited by this development. I think it'll provide a huge link between developments on either side of the railway line.

Have HMRC changed their mind? Why else would a developer progress with a building of this size? That or they have huge levels of interest in the building from elsewhere, or are very brave!

It's an ugly building. I hate how it is divided into three sections. Would be nicer put into two sections with the third (shortest) section added to the height of the taller section. This building could be SO much taller, but nope.

I disagree. I think its a nice composition.

I don't get the obsession for height, especially in a city where the tallest element will be among the tallest buildings (don't forget office floors are taller). We can't forget that occupiers like big floor plates rather than tall svelt buildings. It makes space more flexible. It means you get more net space for the gross space: less it taken up by the 'core' and other servicing requirements. I'd much rather a good quality, occupied mid-rise, than endless plans for talls that never get off the ground.

I concur with RandomComment on this obsession with Height...
Its the mid Rise that I enjoy seeing being developed...
Really hope that all the plans for City Road go ahead too

This is a substantial building and the main tower is a decent height at 86m and I think will sit nicely in that area amongst the other buildings present and proposed. I thought this one died along with HMRC - so hopefully something else major is planned for it as Jantra wondered. In all fairness to JR Smart whenever they propose a development it seems to actually happen! I remember 2 men and a dog constructing No1!! :)
