I was getting worried about this, so I'm happy it's finally been signed off. Is completion still down for 2018? Seems a long time for a building this size.

They have to dig a big hole before they start to build as there's to be a 300 space underground car park. Given that, two years for the build and a year for the technical fit-out takes you to late 2018. It sounds a reasonable time-scale to me.

Its a shame they couldn't get Annika Rice in... she'd help speed things up ;-)

Its good news. I would now like to hear more about 2 Central Square and the Interchange, as well as about office tenants (for those, and for 1 Central Square, which as far as I know still only has 1 confirmed tenant despite "substantial interest").

It seems like a very long build time to me, especially as there's a start date of 7th December.

How quickly has No. 1 gone up?

Good new but from the model, how imposing is this building going to when exiting the station

Great news!

If it is a 2018 finish date then I suspect most of that will be in the fit out unless there are a lot of problems with the sub-structure to sort, such as re-routing major services around new foundations etc. The superstructure shouldn't take very long to build at all.

Broadcasting centres are complex things.

Work started on BBC Salford in 2007 and the centre went live in 2011. According to the BBC website the redevelopment of Broadcasting House in London took 'over a decade' to complete. We're not talking offices here.

Can we assume that this also means 2 central square? if that's going to be built then surely it needs to happen at the same time?

You can't really compare the scale of this with those huge projects though.

How long did it take them to fit out the Mailbox in Birmingham? That was basically a shopping mall refitted as a broadcasting centre. That's a closer comparison. Actually, the Birmingham move from the old Pebble Mill site, to a city centre site has many closer comparisons, not least the somewhat odd idea of moving from their own owned, comparatively much lower cost building, to one they have to lease from someone else at great expense. The old Pebble Mill shared much styling similarities to the Llandaff site too.
