Great update, really excited about this one. Materials that are being used sound great too so the build quality is exciting!

At the base the cladding is starting to appear - early days but looks very nice!

Looks cheap and nasty imo.

Other than the height I've never really understood the universal love in for this building. A glance at the Watkin Jones website will confirm that their buildings run the gamut from mediocre to shit.

I was hoping for something restrained and a bit of damage limitation but if the cladding is of similar hue to the ones in your photo Paul then I fear that this could be a Carbuncle Cup contender.

Can someone please reassure me that I'm jumping the gun and we will not have a primary coloured brute hulking over Charles Street in 12 months time.

Not a big fan then!

I don't think we'll know if this works for a while - but in your eyes maybe it will be that carbuncle? I'm a little more optimistic - we'll see

The issue for me is the the GCI looks like it has gold/bronze cladding which looks very modern and shiny. The reality seems that it's dark orange and I'm really not sure that it will look like anything but a 60's building which has been re cladded.

We'll see.

using real metal bronze cladding like that would turn the tower into a giant reflector and would blind everyone in South Wales

With the weather being so drab and grey for most of the year, maybe what we need is a colourful building to brighten up our city. Anyway, you can’t really judge how it will turn out based on a few of the first cladding squares going up.

Yes indeed! and I think it'll look great - but of course these things are a matter of opinion, I'm really enjoying the construction of this building and still a very long way to go.

Great. From a glossy coppery sheen in the renders to a dull matt red in reality. How are developers allowed to get away with this shit time and time again?

We have a regular contributor on here that might be able to shed some light on it I guess?

It certainly looks like a different colour doesn't it?!
