There seems to be nowhere where parents can go to have a quiet drink/evening out or where those who don't want to have kids running around can go, not since The Deri & Old Cottage succumbed to the lure of the 'Family Market'.
Speaking as the father of a 2 year old I think the problem is there is a severe lack of restaurants specifically aimed at catering to younger families - and I know people will say to me places like the Harvester etc. but these aren't doing enough.
I'm talking about restaurants with play areas for kids, breast feeding areas, children's cutlery, facilities to warm up baby food/milk for infants and more baby changing facilities than a poorly assembled table in the one disabled toilet in the building. So many restaurants are lacking in these basic necessities that parents have to go to just about any restaurant and "make do".
If more genuinely child-friendly restaurants existed the more 'adult' restaurants would be less busy (I'm not naive to think they will be entirely 'child free').
