if it's about Cardiff.. Sport, Entertainment, Transportation, Business, Development Projects, Leisure, Eating, Drinking, Nightlife, Shopping, Train Spotting! etc.. then we want it here!
Nicholson's is a bit of a meh pub brand, pretty cheap though and they have a good range of ales. Never eaten there so can't vouch for the food.
The pub will be called The Old Market Tavern which is kind of reverting back to it's old name, The New Market Tavern, prev. The Market Tavern. Nice to respect the heritage.
Not sure if mentioned before - but I was in town on the weekend and noticed that Bar 1876 (formerly the Big Blue Bar & Grill, The Old Library, The Toad, etc.) ceased trading on October 20th and has closed down. That building is cursed!

I doubt it will happen in the current climate but it would be great if the Cardiff Story could expand into that space. IIRC plans to do that when Cardiff Story opened were stymied by the long lease granted on the bar area to fund the short-lived CVA. If the lease has been surrendered something might be possible.
I only realised this week that Bar Cwtsh (under Jolyons in the Bay) had closed over a year ago. That fully explains why the last two times I tried to go there it was shut.

Pixie Spring brewery have submitted a premises licence application for the basement of Northgate house, underneath the student accommodation development which is underway. I can't get the application link to cut and paste but it doesn't reveal much detail.
It's nice to see alternatives to the Brains stranglehold on the city increasing in number!
Stables bar and restaurant Ltd have applied for a licence for a unit at the bottom of admiral. There's also a drinks application for a unit that used to be schuh on queens street.
