You may recall in 2009 SA Brains sold their free trade business to Scottish & Newcastle. As part of this deal there was a contract that enabled S&N products to be brewed at Brains Brewery, and S&N products (such as Heineken, Fosters) had to be stocked at Brains owned bars.

That contract expires this year and it's rumoured that Brains will not be renewing, which should be interesting two fold: for the future of the brewery and also the lines that Brains pubs serve.

lines that Brains pubs serve.

It amuses me that its hard to get Brains Bitter in some Brains pubs!
They don't like selling it some of their upmarket ones as its too cheap, they prefer Perroni at £6 a pint

I think it's more a case of they have committed to stocking a high amount of rival lines which sell better.

Two new restaurants and a bar planned for Whitchurch Road:

Three new bars or restaurants could all be opening in the same Cardiff street.

Planning applications for the trio of potential new premises in Whitchurch Road have been submitted to the city’s council.

One is for 45 Whitchurch Road – currently the Furniture Warehouse – while another is for number 188, the site of the former Cardiff Sportsgear store.

A third application could see numbers 11-13 converted into a bar called The Brass Beetle.

There are too many 'Spoons in town so I'm not surprised. Their only USP is cheap drinks, their venues are tasteless and full of old timers.

They bought the Lloyds No 1 chain in the early noughties and immediately made them shit. People have moved on and prefer to be in nicer surroundings. No loss at all.

That tends to suggest that the redevelopment of that building in Church Street is no longer going ahead. Thats odd because almost all of the tenants have been cleared out and it seems that the strip club in the basement are looking for new premises - see http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales ... s-13598325

It would be a dissapointment if that building wasn't redeveloped as its a dog.

As for another cocktail bar...... Is it only Cardiff that grabs on to the latest trend and then does it to death (see burger restaurants) or are all cities the same?
