View over Cardiff Castle from office scheme 2 Kingsway

It is one of Wales' best located office schemes affording views across Cardiff Castle.

And now a major refurbishment and an extension of 2 Kingsway is nearing completion, with strong interest already from potential occupiers.

Formerly know as Plas Glyndwr, and which served as the headquarters for the WDA, work on revamping the 40,000 sq ft grade A office scheme will be completed in May.

The building was acquired in 2014 by London-based Ardstone Capital in a deal understood to be in the region of £3.5m.

Property advisors JLL and Bilfinger GVA, acting on behalf of Ardstone Capital, are currently in discussions with various interested occupiers.

The building is being marketed at of £23.00 per sq ft. The preferred option is to let to one tenant.

The new look building will have a two storey reception with a transformed glazed elevation making the most of the views across Cardiff Castle.

In addition the building will provide extensive bicycle facilities. It will have 26 car parking spaces.

Rhydian Morris, director of JLL said: “2 Kingsway has been developed at exactly the right time and we are delighted to provide development and letting advice for this building.

"The fully refurbished and extended office building provides an excellent opportunity for office occupiers, especially the high quality specification and castle views.

"The interest to date is already encouraging and 2 Kingsway will certainly benefit from the limited supply of good quality office availability.”

Tom Merrifield, head of Cardiff agency at Bilfinger GVA said: “We have been involved in this project from the outset and we are confident that Ardstone will meet their key objective of becoming fully let as soon as possible.

"The location and views are unique for an office building in the city centre and we look forward to completion of the building in May this year.”

The building was built in 1989 by developer Helical Bar and was initially occupied by the Bank of Wales.

Construction is being carried out by Edward Davies, part of the Charnwood Group.

Rhydian Morris, director of JLL should have said: “2 Kingsway has been developed at exactly the wrong time and we are saddened to provide this development and letting advice for this building.

"The fully tarted up and knocked through office building provides an excellent opportunity for gullible office occupiers, especially from Welsh Government funded quangos.

"The interest to date is awful and 2 Kingsway will certainly benefit from a good quality press release to Wales online to drum up some needed support.”

The thing that always amused me about theis building was the name "Plas Glyndŵr" named after the man who burnt Cardiff to the ground and devestated the Welsh economy for the next 200 years - an ideal home for the WDA!
