It's this story here that I was referring to, which caused a storm.

Police claim the centre was in their rights because they displayed clear "No photography" signs. However, the centre has no right to ask to see the pictures and certainly no right to ask you delete them.

If you don't display "no photography" signs, how do you expect people to know that it's not permissible?

As I understand it the area around the Pierhead building and the front of the Senedd are part of the Assembly estate which doesn't have any photo or filming restrictions for journalists or the general public.

Mermaid Quay has strict restrictions while the council have a permit system for property they own. The council system is seldom enforced except for big drama productions or for reasons to do with child protection in parks and around schools.

The situation with the Bay photography is the same as the Liverpool Building Regulations chap, it's obvious that the owner (who seemed to be the Council) weren't keen in anyone going in for health and safety reasons...and he just appeared obnoxious with his comments and actions (jumping on the floor). What was the point? Very depressing programme which is nothing but nostalgic and negative. Mistakes have been made I'm sure, times change.

More info on the proposed development:

It would be fantastic if the hall does end up looking like this, with the roof ironwork exposed.

What could it be used for though?

On normal days, something like the attached. On special occassions, it could be used as a large dining hall, a ballroom, an exhibition space. It's a fantastic room, you could use it for many things.

Much the same uses as the Assembly Room in City Hall, one would imagine. That has a larger capacity but does very well on weddings, formal dinners and the like.

While I like the fact that they're planning on getting rid of the 1970s suspended ceiling, it will take some pretty expensive climate control and lighting systems to mitigate the effect of the glass roof.

Be impressed if they are fully opened by May 2017.

Being the perpetual sceptic that I am.....
There is something strange about this, advertising for 100's of staff before the building renovation has even started.

I suspect there is not enough money and we will have a Bayscape or Ebbw Vale race track.
More press releases than actual work.

The project probably will start but due to the complexity of the Grade 1 renovation it suddenly becomes too expensive!
Due to unforeseen poor state of the building/asbestos/mould/damp/subsidence/whatever.

Cue then to ask the WAG or the Council to step in or derogate some of the conditions or help with the costs. :?:

To be fair to the council for once, the recent planning committee scrutiny meeting concentrated a lot on this point insisting that the work be phased in such a way that if it was stopped at any stage the building would be left in an improved condition.

You're right that it looks to be ridiculously short time frame unless the spring 2017 opening is referring to just the main exchange hall. I suppose it might be possible to have that ready as a standalone venue fairly rapidly.
