Surely they'll want to be open for the euro final - it will make them a small fortune. Anyway wandered by today myself and things looking better all the time...

No not building inspectors or demolition consultants - These are GUESTS!! I wandered by the Exchange yesterday to check on the state of play and although things were pretty quiet the doors were open and it was obvious that the hotel was in business. Got chatting to a fellow observer of the "action" (that's Steve - If you're reading Steve lovely chatting yesterday and I hope you don't mind that i've used your photo, oh and have a great time in the States!) and then something really odd happened... guests arrived!!! THE EXCHANGE IS OPEN! and god speed to you
I'm really hoping that this will be the catalyst that starts unlocking the massive potential of this superb part of butetown - so many great buildings being unused or underused at the moment. Signature Living from Liverpool could see that - and thanks for that! hopefully some Cardiff/Welsh companies will start to see it to!

I must commend the developer on an excellent job. Kudos to them. I do hope that it becomes the template for the whole area.

Yes, isn't it shameful that it took someone to come down from Liverpool with the vision and finances to make this happen!

I can't help but think that a lot of this has to do with inverted snobbery. Regardless, it's disgusting that this building was at the point of being lost forever.

Suggests the hotel is opening the coming weekend. Perhaps the 'guests' photographed were some sort of 'test guests'? Or perhaps, Walesonline wrong again?

Not directly related to the Coal Exchange but the BBC programme bit jogged my memory..

This was a great programme on Hidden Cardiff, well worth a watch.

Great documentary. The team should be proud of themselves to achieve so much and save the building. Too bad the bloke from the historical society was so negative. I guess he’d prefer the Coal Exchange to deteriorate beyond saving so he could say told you so.

I can't wish this team any more luck than possible. This building had to to be saved. For all the critics out there, please tell us where your £40M-£50M is located to do something else with the building.
