A £57m project to build a new road linking Cardiff Bay and the east of the city is set to begin.
The Eastern Bay Link Road will connect the A4232, at the Queensgate roundabout, with the A48, at the Ocean Way roundabout in Tremorfa.
Transport Minister Edwina Hart is due to officially launch the development on Thursday morning.
Work is expected to be completed by spring 2017.

Why not keep all articles lumped together, rather than creating a new topic every time walesonline or BBC publish something?
The Eastern Bay Link Road has long been talked about here:

Am I missing something with this link road? The roundabout this so called link road brings you too, leads to a run down awful over used dump past the recycling centre. Where is the link to the A48 as is actually needed? This just pushed the problem a few miles down the road.

Joining ocean way where it does means that traffic is bypass town altogether.

It been announced more often than it is metres long!!
I think this will turn into a disaster. It will queue all the way back to the tunnel roundabout in the evening, blocking outgoing traffic heading west!
At least with Ocean Way there was a good two miles queuing. No silly bugger will bother joining it at the Ocean Way roundabout as it they will have to yield to the new road.

It's a fair point, Zach. I should imagine that there will be lights at both roundabouts but the basic problem of Rover Way isn't solved. It will probably be a useful link at off-peak times but hell on wheels in the rush hour.

Granted the traffic will now bypass the city centre, but the alternative route will be worse during rush hour. Rover way can barely cope as it is during peak hours. As I previously said we're simply moving the problem down the road.

Rover Way needs to be dualled to the Lamby Way roundabout, there's room to do it.

Doubt they'd dual it, the ground conditions around there are awful - that's why Rover Why is being resurfaced so frequently. The original 'Eastern Bay Link' was to have an elevated dual section in this area - whether or not it ever gets built is anyones guess... Although now we have £1.28bn of cash to play with who knows?

Pity as it is the one thing that stops Cardiff having a proper dual carriageway ring road. I take it compulsory purchase in Tremorfa is out of the question?
