Morning All,

The original article was taken off my LinkedIn post: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/planning ... k-articles and I came across this so thought I'd comment.

The proposals for the new build block are indeed eight apartments (not storeys) and are over the existing entrance to the old parking area which would still have access under to the rear of the building.

We're looking forward to bringing this building back into occupation and giving it the care and attention it deserves.

Thanks for the clarification, John.

Would I be right in assuming that the proposed ground floor A3 unit is in the former banking hall? Victorian banks tend to have magnificent spaces. I don't know how much of the original interior remains but hopefully you can do something special with it.

Hi Ash,

Yes that's correct. It's a lovely space on the ground floor, by far the best features of the building internally are here. It is pretty much all reserved for the A3 space here bar a bit of essential space we need for the resi development at the back. We will be seeking a tenant who can utilise and preserve the space here in line our heritage report which we've had completed. If you've ever been in the building you'll have appreciated the coving on the high ceilings and wooden panelling, which amongst other areas will be retained.

Hi John - This all sounds like great news for the building and indeed area. A success of your proposals in this building could really be an important step in linking the old Bute Town with all its marvels and the 'newer stuff' which in all fairness has attracted the visitors back to the area! Good luck with this great project and welcome to the forum!! :)

Thanks for your comments John.

I really hope that this development can be done tastefully and sympathetically to the building. It would be fantastic to see more of these grand buildings down the Bay being brought back to life!

More on this today...

Hoping this gets the required thumbs up! Actually giving some activity to this part of James Street with a ground floor restaurant. Also to see one of the many great buildings in old butetown brought back into practical use I'm hoping will send out a message about the potential of so many of the other buildings currently underused, empty or falling into decline. Obviously the Coal Exchange being the flag ship, but plenty of potential for many more. Old Butetown could and should be one of the finest parts of our city!...

Now we all know mermaid quay aint no masterpiece - but it serves a purpose - (thanks to the Bay,) in getting many people to the area. I'm sure many would want to wander around the more historic part of the Cardiff Bay ie Butetown area. I'm wondering if these plans for the HSBC could just kickstart a significant movement of interest in that direction.
