Nothing definite yet, but encouraging if one or two hotel operators have been showing interest in opening up near the airport. Sure, the airport is tiny still, but as it hopefully grows in passenger numbers over the years a new hotel or two will add to the facilities down there and maybe encourage even more people to use the airport if they have decent overnight stay options before they fly the morning after.

It's an interesting article and drawing up a plan for the whole of the site clearly makes sense.

There is one decison looming that could be crucial. If the airport hits its targets and requires additional terminal capacity by 2025 do they extend the current terminal, as had been planned back in the BMI Baby days, or build a brand new one?

A new terminal in the south east corner of the airport would adjoin the VOG rail line and could include an integrated railway station. On the other hand, it would leave the terminal and the (current) car parking on opposite sides of the runway.

Flybe is to station an additional aircraft and recruit 22 new crew members at Cardiff Airport to support additional flights from South Wales.

The 88-seat Embraer 175 jet will be based at Cardiff with a local crew from 27 March.

The regional airline has operated two aircraft from Cardiff Airport since it opened a base there in 2015 with a forecast that it would create 50 new jobs. It now employs 62 staff at the airport in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The third jet will enable Flybe to serve new destinations, including Venice, and increase the frequency of flights on established routes.

I thought they had more than 3 already.

Fingers crossed for a new route soon!

They currently have 3 aircraft based but 1 is crewed using crew from Belfast. This is news that number 3 will be crewed by a local crew and will also be upgraded from a turboprop to a jet with hopefully more to come next year.

Welsh Government is to acquire £6m of shares in Cardiff Airport following news the transport hub has reached its targets ahead of schedule – bringing closer the date private equity might be introduced.

The work inside had made a big difference. Took a flight to Amsterdam last Friday which was full. On our return on Monday all the flights were even overbooked.

TUI adding more destinations and stationing a new aircraft from April 2019 at Cardiff. I think this would mean 3 737s in total for TUI.

Proposed linked route routes between M4 J34 and A48 to be announced next week - https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wale ... k-14515183

Might finally be a step towards improved road links to the airport. Am not holding my breath though as I've seen several such plans in the past for this.

It might well happen. The work on Five Mile Lane is due to start any day now and presumaby this scheme will link on to it.

I suppose it would provide improved access to the airport from the west. I suspect people driving from the east will continue to use the A4050 rather than A48 or M4.
