Copied from Cardiff Airport 's Facebook page:

Aer Lingus franchise carrier Emerald Airlines is launching a five-times weekly service from Belfast City Airport to Cardiff Airport beginning on 7 July. Flights, which depart Cardiff on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, are now available to book on www.aerlingus.com The decision to add Cardiff to its network is great news for passengers wanting to re-unite with friends and family , fly for business and sports travel or explore Belfast on a city break . With the recent opening of the highly anticipated Game of Thrones Studio Tour in nearby Banbridge, the timing of the start of the service could not be better. Other attractions in Belfast and the surrounding area include the Titanic Belfast visitor attraction and the natural beauty of the Giant’s Causeway near Coleraine.

Shut Cardiff airport down!

As someone who lives in Cardiff it's crazy! Has anyone tried to get to Cardiff airport without a car?! Its quicker, cheaper and has better public transport options to get to Bristol Airport than it is to get to Cardiff airport.... not to mention Bristol offers better destinations, more convenient departure/arrival times and and flight prices (AND a half decent departure lounge)

Unless you live in Barry or Bridgend the location of Cardiff Airport is not convenient for anyone! If you're coming from Swansea or West Wales you've got to drive an hour + down the M4, you might as well keep on going and drive an extra hour to Bristol for the above reasons. Cardiff, the Valleys and Newport (some of the most populated parts of Wales) are well within the normal catchment area of Bristol airport so Cardiff Airport has to be better that Bristol to stand half a chance of attracting them.... sadly it's not.

If a Welsh international airport is going to exist it needs to be rebuilt between Cardiff and Newport and connected to a station on the London main trainline.... the future Cardiff Parkway station! And offer different destinations to Bristol and flights to popular destinations at different times of the day. i.e Bristol offer a morning flight to Paris and Cardiff an evening flight so there's less competition and people from South East England see Cardiff Airport as an option.

Quiet discouraging comments about the airport's location from an ex-airline boss;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-64274221

I remember a plan for a Severn Estuary airport years ago and wonder if this would have done any better? In theory the South Wales catchment area should sustain Cardiff Airport but how to attract the airlines is the question.

The quote in the article about how much the WG has invested in the airport is a good point and quite eye watering....

Positive, but a shame it's not this year as the airline has just announced quite a big list of additional flights on routes and some new routes as well I think, and some possibly in the UK

That would be good if there was more than an hourly service, not really a viable option at the moment.
