I would understand if it was the other way around - say the CEO of a struggling Cardiff Airport complaining that the UK government was pumping cash into a thriving Bristol Airport...

But this is about survival. It might suit Bristol Airport to remove Cardiff Airport from their SWOT analysis and bump their selling price up by 1 or 2% but why should Welsh Government care about that...?
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

Survival for what purpose? The Welsh government isn't exactly flush with cash. And public subsidies for airports? Really? They already benefit from cheap energy because they can buy their fuel elsewhere.

Cardiff has appeared on the West Jet Route Map..
Rumours appearing on X Platform..
It would be a significant boost if Transatlantic flights were added to Cardiff Airport..
The success of TUI could be building confidence and momentum for CWL

There used to be flights to Canada back in the day. IIRC they used to fly from Cardiff via Belfast Intl. I can't remember the airline although my sister was in mid-air when the company declared banruptcy!

Rumours are Glasgow and Cardiff Flights to Toronto..
Cardiff has a runway that lends itself to Transatlantic flights..
Frankly I am surprised how the runway has not attracted more long distance routes..
It’s an excellent addition if true..
Hoping for confirmation this week

Would be great to get the Qatar flight to Doha back, and AIUI it was subsidised so surely a no brainer for Qatar? Loadings were around 75% and they carried a lot of freight. The airport even bought a jet bridge especially.

They can just use a Boeing 737 Max these days for long-haul.
