Cardiff Heliport

PostMon Apr 11, 2016 10:46 am

The BBC Cymru website is reporting that Cardiff heliport has been sold to the company that owns Caernarfon airport. They plan to offer timetabled services to London, Caernarfon and Dublin. I can't see it working myself. The story hasn't appeared on the English version of the site as yet.

Well that's good news - I didn't even know it had closed down, so am very pleased it is now to re-open! ;) I really hope they are able to make a success of plans for the heliport. Would there be a market for leisure flights around the city centre / bay I wonder?

Caernarfon airport is wonderful to fly in to/ out of, although I doubt you'd get the same effect on rotary as you do fixed wing. if you're lucky you'll end up with the RAF giving you an impromptu aero show

I think it unlikely that it would just be for Cardiff, since it is just too small and the costs prohibitive.

I'd pay £100 to do a flight over Cardiff!

The success of the London/Caernarfon flights will depend on the cost and how well the FlyBe service to London City goes.

The Welsh report has a few more details. The new owners are Welsh but are said to have extensive business interests in Kuwait. They've expressed an interest in leasing Cardiff Airport from the WG claiming to have "the capital and know how to run it successfully." Whether that's true or not, I have no way of knowing!
