Not necessarily a development but it's pretty interesting nonetheless, it should be a good form of publicity for Cardiff too providing it's marketed effectively. They seem to have the right people on board for it.

I've often wondered why Cardiff lacks any form of museum or attraction dedicated to Roald Dahl given his connection with the city, he's certainly got the wide spectrum fan base to attract visitors, much in the way that Doctor Who has I suppose.

Who knows, maybe this will kick start a wider initiative.

I think being born, brought up and going to school somewhere is not a "tenuous link".

He received most of his schooling in Weston and Derby.

Since he was only schooled in Weston and Derby I'd say his links with both those places are tenuous at best. He was born in Cardiff and grew up here. That makes him as "Cardiff" as anybody else born here. I have a lot of Korean friends that were schooled in the UK, but they're still very much Korean...

He was christened in the Norwegian Church and his father worked in the coal Exchange - two Cardiff icons. I've read some other accounts where it's stated that some of his works were inspired by places and events that happened in his childhood in Cardiff.

Even if it's tenuous - so what? He's world renowned and has a genuine link to Cardiff. Lets use it.

I seem to remember that there was a plan for a Dahl themed visitor attraction on what's now the site of the Saint David's Hotel. As I recall it, it was a children's literature centre inside a giant statue of the BFG.

I'm fascinated that Roald Dahl's links with Cardiff are tenuous: Like him I was born in Cardiff, went to nursery School in Cardiff and went to Llandaff Cathedral school and then went to a school in London - does that make my links to Cardiff tenuous too?

The only difference is that as far as I'm aware Roald Dahl and Ivor Novello are the only really world-famous people to have come from Cardiff. Unless someone can appraise me of any others
