Tree planting/public realm

I wish the Council would issue some kind of streetscape guidance for the city to ensure that where they carry out works to roads and pavements we have a decent quality paving, less overbearing street lights and appropriate levels of street furniture and trees.

Most recently I notice that paving around Rhydhelig Avemud has been redone, making the pavements feel much wider, but there was so much opportunity to plant a few trees along this huge expanse of hard paving. Where trees are planted in town and damaged or removed, the pits are just paved over instead of replaced with new trees!

I know there's little money in the pot but the little things have a huge impact about how the city is perceived and experienced by visitors and residents.
The fairly replacement of the street lights in the civic centre are a crime and are more suited to a motorway than a historic conservation area location.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

As someone who has mobility problems, I would like to see more seating and not just in city centres. Wouldn't it be good if local businesses could sponsor seating?

There used to be a small charity called "Forest of Cardiff" that worked with the council to increase the number of trees on council owned land / streets etc. A quick google search suggests it may have lapsed into inactivity. As I remember things a lot of "greening" projects like the tree-planting on Eastern Avenue and the A48(M) verges were down to them.

There is actually a document, produced by the Council, which does indeed show their streetscape guidance/plans for different zones of the city, particularly the city centre. It's used more by Architects and Landscape Architects than my lot (Structural Engineers) so I don't think I have a copy, but I have seen something.

From what I understand/senn, Cardiff CC are requiring developers to make large contributions to a central pot of cash that's being used to update the roads, pavements, lighting etc around the city. This is over and above any works that are required within the immediate vicinity of a development.
