This is being built on a tiny piece of land - I think it was a toss up between a couple of phone boxes or a six storey building for 90 students!!

well it's underway...

Where is the demand coming from for all this student accommodation? I thought student numbers had flatlined?

Is the University behind this? It could be a smart business move to provide more accommodation for students and get them out of the rental market with plenty a dodgy landlord. I've had my doubts about some student flats - 20 storey buildings in the centre of town? - but this looks more appropriate. Presumably if students are moving into these kind of developments then there is space or more families to be housed in Cathays.

I believe there is still a very high demand for city centre student living, bare in mind there are various university establishments and colleges etc in the city now. Particularly for the new high end luxury market.

Another thing to consider is that savvy developers are realising by building and letting out huge student developments you do not have to make any contribution towards affordable housing. ;)

We are at the 'meccano' stage of this structure...

Didn't someone ask this of Tulips in the 1630's ?

The fund manager blames too many student halls on the market with the collapse of the Opal Group and new student accommodation being completed for the upcoming academic year.
