Hopefully British developers are finally realising that if you build real quality, developments won't stay empty for long. Let's leave the shoddy build quality well behind us please.

its just a shame that fusion point is such a dog of a build, with car parking out front (who'd have thunk that was a good idea)

I agree! There's too much "business park" style office architecture within the city centre of Cardiff. It makes our city look so small, smaller than it really is.

It looks like Cardiff and Vale College has leased One Canal Parade from Rightacres:

http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... APR_121625

They are using the first two floors as administrative offices, and potentially using the upper floors as additional teaching space (hence the change in use).

I suppose its good to see the building finding a tenant quickly (frees up some cash for Rightacres to use on other developments, ahem, the Exchange). But I had thought this would find a private sector office tenant. Is demand now starting to dry up in Cardiff? What does this mean for the Interchange and Phase II of the Wood Street development site (the other half of St Davids House)? For the two phases of Capital Quarter under construction?

There is certainly a deepening of the 'marketisation' in Tertiary & Higher Education. This is clear from CU going to Central Square and this news. Having quality teaching space will only draw more to the college so wouldn't be surprised to see more lettings like this as developments come on line.

I don't see why a lessee from the educational sector is a problem. Maybe this was a done deal that allowed rightacres to build at the outset.
