I disagree with Bob Croydon's arguments implying a choice between having the barrage and getting the link between town and the bay right. Although I can see that the barrage must have taken up an awful lot of a lot of time and energy.

My main criticism of CBDC would be that they tried to regenerate too large an area. From my point of view they would have been more effective if there had been an exclusive focus on the core area of Butetown, Atlantic Wharf, Roath Basin and the barrage.

Definitely agree with all of the points made above regarding Callaghan Square though. Rather than an urban square, what we essentially have is a barren traffic island, adjacent to a roundabout that would look more at home on a Slough industrial estate than at the heart of a capital city.

the edward england and granary buildings on LGA should have been the blueprint for height style and density. that would have worked similar to the meadows area of edinburgh

Yes, that is a particular eyesore. Is the council able to intervene in these circumstances?

Would that steelwork be usable still after so many years if a development occurred or would it all have to be demolished and the development started again?

Didn't one the Granary Buildings in themselves bankrupt the developer and Fail? From memory one was converted and cost so much, its twin was demolished and replaced with a near replica.
You can see why developers are addicted to cheap timber framed 4 storey housing stock.
