In 2014-15 there were.
Cardiff: 30,500
Cardiff Met: 13,700**

Total 43,000 times £9000 a year = £387m :shock: big bucks indeed if it stays in the local economy.

**Assuming Cardiff Poly (sorry Met) actually charge and don't pay their students!

That's university tuition/student debt per year, not the student loans.

I don't understand the ins and outs of University funding but I presume the student loans comapny now pays the fees to the University? Although the Welsh government pays some of the fees too. Since WAG have agreed to cover some costs might this explain why there's been a big increase in numbers? A rather barren economy outweighing concerns about increased debts?

Yes I know this money goes to the Universities! (albeit at the expense of Student debt) but it must find it way into the local economy, one way or another.
