I thought I'd seen it in the original masterplan, thanks!

I've heard very little about that since though, I guess it's a small part of the overall project right now.

I believe it's merely 3 coach station bays just outside the car park. It's nothing special at all. If anything, just like the actual bus station, severe lack of bays.

Is it really a lack of bays though? How many coaches at any given time need to be there? I'm no expert but I do use Sophia Gardens coach station sometimes. Are there ever more then 3 stopped there at once? I can't say I've ever noticed a row of coaches there, maybe two at once as they come in, drop people
off, pick up more passengers and go again.

I'd be curious to know what the experts think on this. It's the same for the bus station, it seems like 'not enough', but what is enough? Isn't the idea that they aren't hanging around too long?

This was my thought when you hear all the complaints that the bus station will only have 14 bays. If a bus is there for 5 minutes as they seem to be when they wait around the city that means the station can handle 168 buses an hour which to me seems plenty.

Good news, have they started on this yet? I'm sure I saw a crane on a picture Paul has taken on his Flickr site?

I don’t think there is a crane there. I don’t think they have done any ground work yet. Last I saw they had just finished clearing the site.

Yes I think they still have some further demolishing and clearing the site - no activity for a couple of weeks but I believe some work done last week.

Looks like the car garage on Penarth Road is mainly gone according to the pictures on Paul’s Flickr.

Does anyone know if the residential houses along the road are staying / likely to be demolished?

Looks like they are staying. The majority of them look like they have been vacant for years and beyond the means of repair.

Yes, all the visualisations of Central Quay that I have seen showed the houses still in place - which is surprising, it would have made more sense to extend the redevelopment right up to Penarth Road and create an impressive gateway to the city centre. Perhaps there were issues about property ownership which prevented this.

That stretch of Penarth Road is quite shabby on both sides and really could do with a makeover. I've often thought it could be a good candidate for a segregated cycleway; we could cope with losing one lane of traffic to make room for it, and it could be extended across the river to link up with the Taff Embankment in Grangetown.

I drove past yesterday. Almost everything's been demolished now. I think it might look nice that they have kept the older looking houses now. Good to see the new along with the old sometimes. :-)

I believe the very first plans did not have the houses remaining but for some time now, with more recent plans they remain. They will certainly provide a contrast to the very modern development behind them. That said the original brewery is remaining as something of a centrepiece and is from a similar era, so I'm optimistic that they'll scrub up well and look ok :)
