ISV Ski Slope

Does anyone know why the land for the hotel/ski slope is being levelled? Could they actually be starting this build up?

I noticed that the other day, and hoped the same thing (no not the flat slope coz I can't ski!). Officially the slope is the next phase, or maybe they're just tidying up, still - fingers crossed eh!

Do they actually have planning permission for this?

Yes - subject to a number of reserved matters and a Section 106 legal agreement

Well if this is going ahead then I hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as Ice Arena Wales! This thing is going to be massive, so has to be of the best quality or we'll have a real stinker of a building on our hands.

I think I'd rather the ski-slope in Merthyr: the topography is certainly more suitable, and there is potential for greater economic impact in a more deprived area.

If it did go ahead though, would surely mean the developers of the ISV would have to go back to the drawing board. And would we really think that a pool, ice rink and white water centre, would constitute a sporting 'destination'? So the associated retail and cultural space probably couldn't go ahead either.

There was a dry ski slope in Merthyr, above Pentrebach, about 25 years ago. Didn't last long.

I'd be very suspicious this isn't another attempt to do a quick bit of opencast mining at Rhydycar under the disguise of "development". Something equally improbable was thrown out about ten years ago.
