Nice to see this start, it's the bigger part of the two extensions isn't it, same height as the main building?

That looks good.

Time for the car park opposite to go, such a waste of space. Anyone remember those two towers that were proposed for the plots a few years ago?

I think there were significant plans for that area - wasn't it part of the reason that the Vulcan bit the dust (or rather got dismantled and boxed!) weren't plans tied in with SD2? Anyway, surely long term plans can't be for that Car Park to remain as it is, maybe the construction of the new multi-storey at Capital Quarter could be a factor? We'll have to watch that space!

The prison would be a good location should USW want to expand further/merge with Cardiff Met *dreams*

I remember a whole thread on the old forum (or was it Skyscrapercity?) about redeveloping the prison site - I remember drawing some (really bad) sketches myself. Of course, it was mixed use.

Seriously though cannot see the prison moving for at least a generation (30 years, not the Scottish definition) - theres plenty of land in and around central Cardiff for office, resi, hotel development, that would be much much cheaper to build on (Brains site, for instance).

Shame its not the Guggenheim esque version we are getting, but it looks pretty decent and in keeping with the existing building.

I like it. The atrium is probably my favourite build in the modern era and it's keeping with its form.

Anyone remember the quite anodyne BT building there before it (that was actually redeveloped)
