I may be reading too much into this but the talk in the council's development plan of a 'high line style attraction' suggests to me that the current bay rail link will become a linear park with a replacement tram service runninng down Lloyd George Avenue.

That sounds like a great idea! you may be on to something there as I wonder where else that high line style attraction could be?

Where would it start though? You couldn't just start walking from Queen Street station. Great idea, I just can't picture the starting point.

My initial thought for a linear park was on top of the docks by Techniquest. Very narrow pieces of land that go nowhere.

There's a great opportunity here to build a state of the art arena with a direct train / tram access. I'd like to see county hall demolished to make way for a mix of new residential flats, restaurants, hotel and a new location for the Odeon, Hollywood bowl, the casino. Essentially moving red dragon across.

Then Red Dragon to be demolished to build the arena and a 2,000 space multistorey car park. A tram down Lloyd George Avenue could even go straight into the venue. They could even configure the train to do the same.

I like the ideas mentioned here I thought that putting the arena on the site of county hall might be a bit too close to all the residential areas, so this makes sense.

There should be a report in the media very shortly for the new arena. Seems like it's progressing nicely.

Thing is, this is prime land. Absolutely prime land. There's been plenty of discussions of redeveloping this area but it's all dependent on this lease being reissued or not. The blues don't have enough money to build a stadium, and they for sure won't be going back to Cardiff City. Where will they go?

Official statement from Cardiff Blues.

http://www.cardiffblues.com/news/9438.php#.WnjP3zfLjIU

Following a meeting of the Cardiff Blues board today (February 5), the decision was made to redouble efforts to secure a long-term home with a 'fit for purpose' stadium and therefore the company will now explore alternative options away from Cardiff Arms Park.

Following 10 years of negotiations, Cardiff Blues have been unable to reach an agreement with Cardiff Athletic Club (CAC) to extend the current lease at Cardiff Arms Park, which expires in four years. The board are in agreement that they must future proof Cardiff Blues by exploring alternative options away from Cardiff Arms Park.

There are a number of exciting opportunities available and the executive have been instructed to take these forward.

Cardiff Blues would like to thank all parties, who have been involved in the process, for their efforts in trying to reach an amicable agreement but we have a duty of care to secure the future of the company.

Cardiff Blues will be making no further comments at this time.

I read this as a final warning to the 'blazer brigade' at the Athletic Club. No doubt the Blues hope the Gin and Jag set who run the CAC come to their senses but there are other realistic options. Leckwith is the obvious one but there are also sites in the spluterring ISV and Sophia Gardens as well.

It could just be a coinsidence but the timing of this news fits in nicely with the soon to be released news on the new arena.
I’m wondering if we could see an arena/rugby stadium as a joint venture with ccc/the blues
A stadium with a retractable roof like the original plans for the arms park only in a different location.
