I'd also imagine that it makes more sense to put the new red dragon center where the current one is so that the restaurant and retail that will go there gets prime spot facing Lloyd George and the Bay whilst the arena itself is fine being a bit more hidden where County Hall is because it's going to dominate in its own right (and doesn't need passing trade like the new red dragon will)

Hopefully with an active frontage rather than the dreadful back wall that currently faces the bay!

So is the Red Dragon to be kept, or modified, or demolished? I was hoping we would see rid of it; the interior is dated and the exterior is just a glorified tin shed.

No set plans yet, Cardiff Council are looking for developers, but it sounds like they would want to demolish it and start again.

Hopefully they'll start again, it's totally unsuitable for it's location, it's an out of town development slap bang in the middle of the Bay.

I think the redragon centre needs flipping so the front is onto Lloyd’s George ave. The council building is torn down and replaced by the new arena with a multi story car park and the office moved into in the centre. The redragon car park changed into a retail area and a bridge added to the pier head car park linking it to the new redragon and arena.

The reason the Red Dragon Centre is the way it is - is that it was effectively an out of town centre when it was built...

Today, it needs a commercial frontage facing the bay, and this should wrap around the Arena so the two are complimentary not separate. The main entrance to Arena should be on Lloyd George Avenue but flanked by bars, restaurants etc. The main Arena itself can then be built across existing RDC and council car park....with Council offices replaced by appartments. The existing RDC car park should then contain the cinema complex, offices and MS Car Park...

Meanwhile Council Offices should go to Callaghan Square..
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

Echo this 100%.

Add the multistory towards the back end of the RDC car park. Potentially a bridge from the pierhead carpark. Add in the new train station scheduled by 2021 and the potential of the completed eastern link road and this is pretty much perfect on paper.

MS Car Park? No disrespect to you (your posts are always well-researched) but I always seem to have a massive blind spot when it comes to abbreviations. I've re-read your post about 10 times now and cannot work out what this stands for.
