Good to see some movement on the arena, and with timelines in next year for planning too.

That sounds very promising indeed!

This proposal makes sense on a lot of levels for me. It's come at a good time for the council to potentially move County Hall into the Interchange? Should be enough office space?

I'd like to see a direct Cardiff Central to Cardiff Bay train/tram linked to this.

It's time to also speculate what will replace the current Motorpoint Arena? It makes sense that it goes alongside the NCP car park. It's a massive plot of land. How are Admiral looking for new office space?

Great to hear that this is progressing. I'm particularly pleased that the site will be completely reconfigured and that it looks as though the inner harbour area will finally be rid of the low density out of town style Red Dragon development and accompanying surface car parking. Fingers crossed that the new arena and red dragon centre will be of a high architectural standard and will serve to create a more vibrant big-city feel around the southern end of Lloyd George Avenue.

It will be interesting to see now whether proposals emerge for County Hall or whether the Council take the politically easy option of remaining on site.

Isn't the office space in the Interchange meant to be lined up for a private sector organisation who the Welsh Government are trying to get to bring jobs to Cardiff? I'm not sure what the status of that is, or who it is, but I think that's still the case.

Qatar Airways is still looking for a suitable site for its 5 star hotel in the city centre.

This could be exciting on two fronts, the arena itself - something of this size we are presently lacking and would surely immediately become a member of the UK arena circuit. Very much re-invigorating the Cardiff Bay appeal. Then there's the future of the motorpoint arena or probably the plot - can't think what the existing structure could be used as (could it be expanded in some way to be specifically a conference venue - maybe not). Hopefully 2 reasons to be cheerful! Let's hope we get significant progress on this next year - what's the latest on Bristols arena ambitions? They'll be loving this over the channel!! :o

The Motorpoint structure is in dire need of repair. I'm pretty sure the new convention centre in Newport was built with some condition that Cardiff wouldn't compete with it, Welsh Government are paying for half of it after all. If built at the whole 15,000 seats it would become one of the biggest arenas in the UK, bigger than any offering in Scotland or Northern Ireland. Only the O2 in London, Manchester Arena and the NIA in Birmingham would have a bigger capacity. This would be sure to attract the biggest touring acts to Cardiff, bringing in crowds from all over the country.

Personally, for me, the whole Motorpoint building needs to go. BUT, I would like a smaller 3-4k size venue to replace it to act as a medium sized venue between the new arena and the Tramshed / St.Davids Hall / Uni, much like the O2 Academy in Bristol. I think combined with the NCP this plot could be a great mixed use development of office, hotel, new 3-4k venue etc. Maybe even one of the university's would be interested in this land? It's prime that's for sure!

The Bristol Mayor came out recently and confirmed the arena would NOT be going ahead next to Temple Meads. I believe they're now pressing ahead for it to be built at the Filton Airfield. I can't see both happening, if they manage to submit a planning application by July 2019 I would raise doubts over the future of the Bristol Arena.

I would imagine that the contract with Live Nation to run the new arena will stipulate that the Motorpoint is closed down, they're not going to want a competitor trying to undercut them.
