Today, it needs a commercial frontage facing the bay, and this should wrap around the Arena so the two are complimentary not separate. The main entrance to Arena should be on Lloyd George Avenue but flanked by bars, restaurants etc. The main Arena itself can then be built across existing RDC and council car park....with Council offices replaced by appartments. The existing RDC car park should then contain the cinema complex, offices and MS Car Park...

Meanwhile Council Offices should go to Callaghan Square..

Echo this 100%.

Add the multistory towards the back end of the RDC car park. Potentially a bridge from the pierhead carpark. Add in the new train station scheduled by 2021 and the potential of the completed eastern link road and this is pretty much perfect on paper.

Absolutely perfect and obvious solution! What could possibly go wrong?? :D

So far this process has been running fairly smoothly. Not surprising giving this development is fundamental for plenty of other opportunities for the council, i.e. a new shared public service centre on Callaghan Square, the phase 1 of the crossrail between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay and potentially the completion of the western bay link?

Good news.

Would O2 be interested in running it? They have a great place in Brixton and I think in Bristol...

Aren't they in negotiations with Motorpoint to run the new arena, especially considering the old one will be going?

Yes, the council are talking with Live Nation who run the CIA. Guess there will be a tender process though.

o2 doesn't run venues. It is a telecoms company that owns naming rights for the o2 arena in Greenwich and the Academy chain of smaller live music venues. The o2 Academy venues are more akin to The Globe than a 15,000 arena.
