Presume this is the reason for the delay - now need to purchase & utilise Future Inns Hotel for Multi Story to help reduce constructions costs

Delays due to a huge cost increase, may be sorted early Spring this year so 2025 opening now allegedly...

I'm getting a nagging doubt in the back of my mind about the whole thing.

Now planned for a 2026 opening with construction starting this autumn or next January.

I understand that cost increases due to inflation/Covid/Brexit but it's already been 3 years since the plan was announced.

Not news relating to the new arena, but it looks as though Live Nation have secured a new sponsor for the CIA. Planning apps suggest Utilita Energy will take over sponsorship and rebranding signage externally.

Still no news on the new arena and it's already 'summer', why do so many things in Cardiff either take forever or fail to get off the ground completely?

Some news.
Looks like they're cutting a few corners (literally) in terms of trying to keep the costs down.

Some people have commented that it looks "hideous", but I've seen a lot worse.

Most arenas tend to look like big boxes from the outside (or a big tent in the case of the o2...not that the o2 was ever designed as a concert venue).

If it delivers the goods in terms of the capacity and acoustics inside then that's the main thing.

We certainly need an improvement on the CIA, which has punched above its weight in attracting some big acts, but it was pretty outdated even when it opened.

I just hope the red dragon replacement doesn't become an afterthought, as it holds the only imax screen in wales (that I'm aware of), as I've said before.

The planning notices went up on Thursday. Two mullti story car parks, council office replaced with housing, two hotels. New council office next to arena, which is scarily close to the flats at bottom of LGA. Consultation closes 26/8 or 3/9 depends where you read it!
Closure of schooner way and hemmingway road. Council have already told residents that won't change.

Walked down here this morning and there is finally the enabling work starting. Diggers flattening the council park, lots being cordoned off, half of hemingway Road shut. Can't be long until the Travelodge comes down

The work along Hemmingway Road is for pipework for the new district heating system they installing throughout the bay. Presumably this system, surplus heat from the Viridor ERF by Roath Dock, will be used by the arena and replacement council offices or the convention/conference facilities for the arena if they are built instead of the council offices.
