What tower would that be? The 134m one? I would have thought that tower would start before then.

There is a excel document on the planning app somewhere, I'm positive the actual core won't start being built until April. I could be wrong, it's mentioned in the other thread. Most likely 20 pages behind the Cardiff V Bristol argument.

i wonder will we look back in 50 years at all the high rise shite that cardiff turned into
strange the most photograhed area of bristol are those multicolored houses not the modern stuff

The 'nice old building' you are talking about, at least the attractive part of it, is staying.

Can anyone confirm if the demolition has taken place for this?

I hope to get over and have a look tomorrow and shall post a pic or two here. I wonder when construction is due to commence following the demolition and site clearance?

Only in photos and memories does this building remain - The York Hotel 1890 - 2017 RIP

I popped down today for a look and was struck by how confined the site is. Given that the Custom House is being retained - the new tower is going to look incredibly narrow when viewed from either side - a veritable skinnyscraper!

I've never been as critical of the design as some people on here and the more I try to visualise it, the more it grows on me.

Meanwhile Vale, The York Hotel - home of Cardiff's very first gay bar back in the seventies. IIRC, the back bar of the York and the Showbiz Club around the corner on Custon House Street were where the Cardiff gay scene began.

I actually can't believe this is happening. This is going to be appalling.
