I've always quite liked the Big Sleep, but have never been able to work out why. Maybe because it's a bit different. I wish it was a different colour to that green though.

That little office building next to it is ripe for replacement with another tower though.

The Park Inn is also hideous. The Marriott is a fine building though. What's to dislike?

I dont like the Marriott due to its location, the amount of space the building takes up (especially the car park section) and i don't like the 80's look of the building. i think this space can be much better utilised being next to the Hayes, Mill Lane, Library etc, i nice green space with pop ups and street food would be lovely by there. surrounded by larger hotels on the periphery such as Sleepers, Clayton and the new custom house one.

The size of the footprint of the Marriot has always been a problem. When it was built it had an 'out of town' rather than a city centre feel. It was improved a bit when the new library development replaced that god-awful surface car park. I'd be happy to see the tower itself stay but the newish two storey car park is dead space in what should be a prime location.

Thanks for the update, I was wondering when we would see some construction following the demolition.

I wonder when we'll see any construction the other end of custom house st!

Interesting to see a close up of the external cladding

Well the close-up at least looks more interesting than the initial images.

The close up does look more interesting and certainly more promising than the initial render, i wonder if it will be similarly clad to the bayscape apartments, they dont look too bad for an entirely black building. I hope the customs house building has a sensitive restoration and looks distinct from the tower element. While i dont dislike Altoulousso it doesnt make the best out of the historic frontage, but at least it was kept and adds character to quite a nondescript at best street.

That close up does make it look a bit better, the initial render had me really worried.

It'll be one I reserve judgement on until I see cladding appearing on the structure I think. One thing's for sure, it'll be good to see that site used at long last.

I hadn't realised they'd pre-let the restaurant and bar as well, that'll add a bit of street activity as well.
